Jim Troesh loves to create! Whether he is acting, writing, or
designing artwork, Jim feels most alive when his creative wheels are
spinning.
His
entertainment career took off when he landed the recurring role of the quadriplegic
attorney on Highway to Heaven
starring Michael Landon. The lead role catapulted him into appearances on
several other series, TV movies, and films. But, when Highway to
Heaven ended, work slowed down, and Jim quickly learned
that earning a living as a quadriplegic actor was a difficult road.
Jim's
favorite saying is, "Obstacles are what people see when they lose
sight of their goal," so when one route to his goal of success in
the entertainment industry slowed down, he found another -- writing.
Driven
to write since jr. high, the decision to pursue TV writing was easy.
After studying with some of the industry's top writers, he meshed his
writing skills with his unique life experiences and started cranking out
stories. His first works were scenes that he and his fellow
students performed in acting class.
He
had early success selling a story to Michael Landon that continued
his role on the show, but work was scarce so he took a
"regular" job for several years. He returned with a vengeance
in 2003, honing his writing skills by studying with established writers.
Success returned recently with the sale of his two features, Harlem,
and The Torture.
And, now, with his win of the prestigious ABC/Disney Scholarship, Jim's
career looks more promising than ever.
Humor
is Jim's driving force, It helped him overcome his disability as a
youth, and he continues to use it to put people at ease. As a founding
member of The Moving Targets, LA's
Political Comedy Improv Troupe, Jim not only busts up audiences, he
enlightens them about the untapped potential of people with
disabilities. In addition to performing with the troupe, he writes many
of the sketches and is the associate producer.
Jim's
writing occasionally hits on disability issues, but he certainly doesn't
limit himself. Having been a dad, a son, a brother, a husband, an
ex-husband, a boyfriend, and much more, and having worked in plenty of
mainstream jobs, Jim has lots of life experience to draw on.
He
prefers writing dramas, but his scripts include comedies,
action-adventures, contemporary stories, historical, and science
fiction.
Jim became disabled as the result of a fall in high school.
